  LSI - Latent Semantic Indexing

Latent Semantic Indexing - Introduction

Latent Semantic Indexing (LSI) is an algebraic model of document retrieval based on co-occurrence clustering of terms and the identification of documents associated with these term clusters. It is one of the most sophisticated modern attempts at high quality automatic indexing.

Latent Semantic Indexing (LSI) means that a search engine tries to associate certain queries or terms with concepts in terms of indexing web pages. For example -Tiger and Woods are associated with golf.

Latent Semantic Indexing (LSI) assists search engines to find out all information of a web page or what a web page is all about. It basically means to you that you shouldn't focus on a single keyword when optimizing your web pages and when getting links.

The web pages on your web site should be related and focus mainly on a special topic while using different words that describe the topic. Use variations of your keyword and synonyms. That makes it easier for search engines to determine the topic of your site.

Google uses concept of latent semantic indexing in its ranking and indexing algorithm and it is not recommended to focus only on a single keyword, but focus on a set of relevant keywords with your search engine optimization campaigns.

Also it will be better to optimize some of the pages on your web site for keywords that are synonymous of your main keywords.
