Supply chain Integration for a large travel operator (Supplier XML Integration)

| | | Client | | A large trading operator in the travel domain since more than twenty years offering car rental services across Europe, Australlia and USA. |
|
|

Challenges
The client was faced with the challenge of integrating its booking engine with the suppliers to ensure a seamless application, and avoid any manual delays in booking confirmation. In the old legacy system, the voucher was printed and then the call centre executive had to confirm the booking by either calling or sending a fax to the supplier. This resulted in delays in booking confirmation and inability to close the sale at the same point.

The major challenge was to integrate the interfaces of each supplier and have a common mapping platform which was interoperable across diverse systems of the suppliers.

Solution
To overcome the challenges faced, WebExcel was invited to propose a solution based on current infrastructure, and extend it to include the suppliers as well. The series of discussion with the senior management of the client and the supplier, resulted in devising a fool proof communication channel with the suppliers, and ensure that the real time response is received.

This involved defining the external interfaces that the application would expose to integrate with the suppliers. The solution suggested would meet the performance, scalability, security, reliability, and availability of the application.

The application would make the service call to the supplier, and provide the appropriate response based on the booking details.

|

The proposed solution used to validate the details, post data, send the request and get the response from the supplier system. The underlying technology used was XML Web Service with .Net Framework.

|

Key features of the implementation were:

A separate web service was created to avoid dependency

Ability to map the booking details with the supplier end

Ability to get online confirmation of the bookings

Ability to get the subject to avail status and proceed ahead

Business benefits

Instant Confirmation of bookings which otherwise would take 48 hours

Reduction in operating costs of manpower, faxes and phone bills

Reducing failure points

Increased Cash Flows
